The Small Business Administration has certified Cord Master Engineering as a HUBZone small business concern effective February 4, 2014. The Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Program stimulates economic development and creates jobs in urban and rural communities by providing Federal contracting preferences to small HUBZone certified businesses. These preferences go to small businesses that obtain HUBZone certification in part by employing staff that live in a HUBZone. The company must also maintain a “principal office” in one of these specially designated areas. The program resulted from provisions contained in the Small Business Reauthorization Act of 1997.
“We are very excited about this development in Cord Master’s business. CME’s HUBZone status will help our prime defense contractor customers achieve compliance with federal contract allocation goals.” said Bernie LaRoche, President of Cord Master. “Additionally, this certification will promote economic development and employment growth in North Adams, which is the overall goal of the HUBZone program.”
